Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria prescribes that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shall have powers to, among other things, “register political parties in accordance with this Constitution and an Act of the National Assembly.” It is in line with this provision that INEC registered a total of 63 political parties in Nigeria.
